Minimum fundraising target is £750, and places are open to families, friends, and anyone else who wants to support the BDFA’s work.

If you would like a place, please drop us an email: fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk.

Ultra Challenges

Ultra Challenge events take place across the country, so there’s bound to be one near you – and despite the name, these challenges really are for everyone!

Each event offers a range of distance options, from 10km right up to 100km, meaning you can choose a challenge that suits your ability and goals. Whether you want to walk, jog or run, take part solo or as a team, you can go at your own pace and make it your challenge, your way.

These events are all about personal achievement, community spirit and raising vital funds for the BDFA – not about being an elite athlete. Many people take part in their very first challenge through an Ultra Challenge, and full support is provided along the route to help you every step of the way.

If running events aren’t your thing, why not try something completely different with Big Bang Experiences?

These adrenaline-filled challenges are perfect for anyone looking to step outside their comfort zone and fundraise for the BDFA along the way – no running required!

We recommend the following events:

  • Wainhouse Tower Abseil in West Yorkshire – 29th & 30th May 2026
  • Trafford Palazzo Abseil in Manchester – 26th, 27th & 28th June 2026
  • Twickenham Zip Wire at Allianz Stadium – 16th, 17th & 18th October 2026

Participants fund their own place on the event and can set their own fundraising target, making these challenges flexible and accessible for anyone who wants to get involved. They’re a great option for individuals, groups, friends or family members who want a memorable experience while supporting BDFA.

Full event details can be found in the events section of our website here: https://www.bdfa-uk.org.uk/get-involved/take-part-in-an-event

Or you can get in touch with us at fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk.

Self-funded Events

As a small national charity, we unfortunately can’t secure charity places at every event across the UK – but that doesn’t mean you can’t get involved! There are thousands of exciting events with general entry places that you can purchase directly from the event organiser.

By choosing to fund your own place, you can still take on an incredible challenge and raise vital funds to support families affected by Batten disease. There’s no minimum fundraising target, and you’ll receive the same wonderful support as any of our fundraisers, including a free BDFA running vest or t‑shirt, fundraising materials, and help promoting your page.

Pick an event that inspires you, secure your spot, and join Team BDFA in your own way!

We will consider buying multi-package places for certain events where there is a significant interest for groups. If you have a team of fundraisers ready to go, please contact fundraising@bdfa-uk.org.uk.

THANK YOU!

Thank you for your interest in fundraising for the BDFA. Our incredible fundraisers are very important to us – your kindness, commitment and support help keep our essential services running and ensure families affected by Batten disease never face this journey alone.
