Bertie’s Helpers

Mimi and Andrew Petty set up Bertie’s Helpers to honour their son Bertie, who died of CLN1 Batten Disease, aged 4. Bertie loved his toy bunnies so Mimi and Andrew knew they had to use the Bertie Bunny in the logo!

Bertie’s Helpers provide practical help to families with a child with Batten disease by providing a gift of a Tesco food delivery, so that families can spend more precious time together and not have to worry about meal planning or getting to the shops. The food delivery is focused on high quality, quick meals and treats, to make a practical difference at a difficult time.

Bertie’s Helpers can help families who are facing a particularly challenging time, such as a new diagnosis, facing a marked deterioration in their child’s condition, moving house, a hospital admission, looking after their child at end of life, or other difficult family circumstances. Newly diagnosed families are offered 3 deliveries, spaced 2 months apart, to help in the challenging early days of diagnosis.

If you would like more information or a nomination form please contact the Family Support team at support@bdfa-uk.org.uk

Our team at the BDFA and other parents will also able to nominate a family for this extra special help using the same contact.

The BDFA think this is a very special project which has already helped numerous families in our community. Mimi and Andrew are truly inspirational to think of others in this way at a very challenging personal time. They are seeking some support to meet the long-term costs of providing Bertie’s Helpers food gift deliveries through their appeal: https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/appeal/Berties-Helpers

"I'm feeling very overwhelmed this morning. I received a gorgeous food delivery from Bertie's Helpers. The extra pressure of worrying about getting to the shops, on top of everything else we have to deal with, was removed. This actually couldn't have arrived on a better day as this morning Molly started seizing. She's had 4 so far already today. Thank you so much Bertie's Helpers, I am forever grateful for your support. It truly means the world."

Thank you so much Berties Helpers for our Tesco delivery. This is our second delivery and we are just as amazed as the first time! There is such a variety of food and household products that will keep us going for a long time.We are so grateful to receive these deliveries, it takes a lot of pressure off of us and allows us to spend more time focusing on our daughter and spending time as a family.
